A month without groceries:
Week 1
It was a pitiful first week and I'm embarrassed to share the days with you. On Monday (only two days in) baby and I both caught the evil stomach bug. We gave it to hubby on Wednesday. It's funny how it effected each of us differently. For me, I couldn't get out of bed for 24 hours. Baby was fine after like 4 hours. Shane ended up sick for 2 days straight and was still very weak on Friday. So, there were a lot of pitiful meals consisting of crackers and soup to be had this week.
I was forced to change a rule in this challenge. It didn't help that while my family was sick I watched one of those health food documentaries on Netflix. It told me what I already knew: Most of us Americans lack nutrition in our diets and we need to eat more fruits and vegetables to be healthier. All of those documentaries say the same thing, but one of the guys on this one said something in particular that caught my attention, "Though we have an abundance of food, we are starving." After I struggled to get my strength back and observed how this sickness effected Shane, I realized the blueberries and broccoli in our freezer were not going to cut it. With that said, I have allowed myself to buy $10 STRICTLY in fresh fruits and vegetables weekly during this challenge.
So, on Saturday (day 7) I went to Aldi and purchased the following for $9:

- strawberries
- spinach
- romaine lettuce
- bell peppers (I already had peppers and onions in our freezer.. bought these to put on salads)
