A month without groceries:
Week 4
Guys, I'll be honest. I prepared, took inventory, and really made sure I had dinners covered so I wouldn't have to buy groceries for this 31 day challenge. For lunches I thought, "I'm sure I'll have plenty of dinner leftovers to make it." For breakfasts I thought, "I can make anything breakfasty with flour, milk, and eggs!" Long story short, I ended this challenge on day 27 because I did NOT have enough to make it for breakfasts. I probably could have still done some lunch stuff, and I definitely had dinners left. Truth really be told, 31 days is a long time to live on freezer food. It can be done, and the most determined people can do it, but I was just done. My true goal with the whole thing was to break away from grocery shopping for things I didn't need. It was me trying to discipline myself to live more simply and contempt for a month. Though I did not make it the whole 31 days, I consider it a success.
Here's what I still had left over in the food department after I finished this challenge:
I did not buy any fresh fruits and veggies this week.
Here's what I still had left over in the food department after I finished this challenge:
- leftover beef and rice filling for stuffed peppers
- 1 chicken breast
- 2 hamburger patties
- condiments, plenty of butter, rice, frozen veggies, pasta, tortillas, etc
I did not buy any fresh fruits and veggies this week.
For breakfasts, we lived on the last loaf of banana bread I had in the freezer for about 4 days. We ate out twice, finishing the eating out 10 times each month budget. For one of those "eating out" days, I went to Panera and bought a half dozen bagels to help with the week's breakfasts.
Here's what we ate this week (click on the picture for the recipe):
