Why Buy in Bulk?
Getting a membership to a warehouse like Sam's Club or Costco is an excellent way to save money if you don't coupon, but can also benefit you more if you are a couponer (unless you're an Extreme Couponer...then you seem to get pretty much everything for free don't you?).
I LOVE Publix and look forward to shopping there every Wednesday when the new Sales Ad comes out, but I always seem to be lacking (or feel like I'm spending too much) on meats, dairy products, toiletries, and trash bags. This is where Sam's Club comes in for me. While I'm at Publix weekly, I only need to shop at Sam's about twice a month. I always make sure to stock up at Sam's on milk, eggs, meat, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and other random products such as light bulbs, Brita filters, and Sonicare toothbrush heads.
Before diving in head first and making a giant purchase at your local warehouse, make sure you price check against your local grocery stores. I am almost always guaranteed a better price on meat at Sam's, but there are rare occasions where meat is cheaper at the grocery store with sales and coupon match ups.
Another plus to having a warehouse membership is gas prices. Sam's club always has gas a few cents cheaper per gallon than surrounding gas stations. If you choose to be a member of Costco, you get a rebate check at the end of each year based on how much you filled up through them. Tires are also cheaper (for the most part). I got a flat tire a couple of years ago on my ways to Sam's, and they patched it for free!
I thought I would conclude this by showing you my trip and cost to Sam's last week for a few things. It's not much, but it will give you an idea. Be sure to click here to see why I buy whole chickens instead of breasts.
